We had dinner at a high profile family’s home in DC. The wife asked me to pass a roll. Instead of passing the basket I reached in, grabbed a roll and handed it to her. Her response is engraved in my mind forever. I didn’t even notice what I did wrong until my companion explained to me after we left that it’s not polite to touch other people’s food with your hands.
